The Equipping Word

Equipped to Worship

November 30, 2018  ●  18-6

Psalms 113:5: Who is like the Lord our God, who is enthroned on High?

A great place to start when it comes to worship is an understanding of who God is. We have to answer that question, “who is like the Lord our God” if we want to be in the proper frame of mind for worship. Worship is not a religious exercise we engage in before the preacher preaches, it is not entertainment, and it is not a show or a performance. Worship cannot be manufactured. Instead, worship is the result of the believer’s relationship with the one true and living God through His Son Jesus Christ.

Worship is giving all the honor and praise to God because there is no one else like Him, He is in heaven and we are here on this earth. God is our creator and our Savior. God is all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present and unchanging. This is who we worship, the God of glory and the God of the universe who revealed Himself to us through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ. We don’t worship the church, we don’t worship songs, we don’t worship the pastor – we worship the one true and living God of whom there is no one like Him; enthroned on High looking over His creation.

God’s Word equips us to worship Him. As you prepare for worship on Sunday, I want to invite you to allow God’s Word to equip you for worship. Read Psalm 89.5-18 and Psalm 91 as an example of God’s Word equipping you for worship. Prayer also equips you for worship.  Pray and ask God to help you to remove any distractions that may prevent you from truly worshiping Him. Ask God to give you a clearer understanding of His love for you in Christ Jesus. Be equipped for worship!
